TAI CHI

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Tai chi is a system of Chinese martial arts that have in common certain principals. These principals are coiling, sticking, bumping, and toppling. These esoteric principals translate into a unique set of connected postures that are elegant as well as functional in daily life chores, curing many chronic ailments, anti aging, stress reduction, as well as self defense. Tai chi is an excellent addition to any fitness routine in that it is restorative and energizing. Studies have shown that practitioners of Tai chi have significantly fewer accidents resulting from falls. The coiling twisting movements increase the conductivity of the nervous system, as well as massage and rejuvenate the internal organs. This is one of the reasons that Tai chi is known for its anti aging affects. The diligent practice of Tai chi is known to make one indefatigable, or nearly tireless in the face of hard work. At Rymenmy Healing center you can choose Yang Style Tai chi, Bagua Style Tai chi,Tai chi Swords, moving and still Qigong as well as indoor or out door training.

INSTRUCTORS

John Pekich

Has been training since 1980 in various Qi Gong, and Chinese Martial arts forms, including: Tang Lang (Chinese boxing) Shuai Jiao (Chinese wrestling) Yang style Tai chi, Ba Gua style Tai Chi, Tai Chi Jian (straight sword), and Tai Chi Dao(broad sword) as well as a 200 hour teacher training from YogaWorks based on Ashtanga and Ivengar Yoga concepts. He was persuaded to start teaching by a long time friend who actually arranged an interview with the manager of Twenty four Hour Fitness in Huntington Beach on his behalf circa 1998. John has taught all of the aforementioned disciplines, and has been teaching a lot of the External, and internal Qigong, Yang Style Long form, and Taiji Dao (single edged sword)recently. His teaching props include eighteen replica Taiji Dao which he laminated from wood. "My niche seems to be helping people to overcome chronic ailments, such as asthma, various bodily pains, etc, as well as increasing functional fitness which allows them to have a great overall fitness level regarding lean body mass, range of motion and resistance to illness.   " As a 5 year old I was able to tour 9 countries in Europe visiting virtually every monumental work of architecture, as well as all of the classic works of art. This was a most powerful influence for my sense of aesthetics regarding landscape design as well as martial arts, etc.Upon admiring the beauty of a set of movements I was told by my master "no have ugly way." My comments on the utility of movements were met with "no have stupid way. “ My Favorite exercises are the moving exercises which are so ingeniously conceived that they are perpetuity in motion. Sustainability is achieved by an equally ingenious set of still postures that support the practitioners' movements into old age.All of the martial arts I practice would not be possible without the kindness of my friend and mentor Dr. Lin Chi Shan, who saw potential in me and located my master Lin Chun Fu, these two men have been my constant inspiration and guidance. " As a teenager, I was advised to learn boxing to protect myself prior to traveling to the Hawaiian Islands for surfing. The conditioning effect of my training has been far more valuable than the self-defense. Without the rejuvenating effects of practicing Qi Gong, Tai chi, and Kung Fu, I would not be able to fully enjoy the things I treasure most, family, surfing, and my two professions, landscape design, and exercise instruction. My mission in life is to make a difference in this world by improving the quality of life in my students, as well as the beauty of our environment. John Pekich
